Koltygin A.V., Plisetskaya I.V. Calcium's Behavior in Cast Magnesium Alloys of the Mg-Al-Zn-Mn System
Influence of additives of calcium in quantity to 1% on weight on structure and mechanical properties of magnesian alloys of system Mg-Al-Zn on an example of alloy ML5 GOST 2856-79 is investigated. It is established that the calcium additive in small quantities of 0,1…0,2% on weight has modifying an effect and raises temperature of ignition of alloys of type ML5 at pouring in the form. The course of equilibrium and nonequilibrium crystallisation of alloys on the basis of system Mg-Al-Zn-Mn-Ca in software package Thermo-Calc is studied, the structure analysis was spent by a method of optical microscopy.

Hosen Ri, Ri E.H., Khimukhin S.N., Kalugin M.Y. Effect of Temperature Regimes of Melting and Alloying Aluminum Alloys on Casting Properties
Effect of overheating temperature of aluminum and its alloys on the improvement of alloying efficiency and mechanical properties was investigated. It was found that for improving mechanical properties of castings the alloying elements should be added at temperatures above the threshold of abnormal change in the liquid phase properties by a value determined for each alloy. In doing so, maximal dispersion of structural components is achieved.

Romashkin V.N., Nuraliyev F.A., Stepashkin Y.A. Peculiarities of Brittle-Elastic Fracture of Self-Hardening Molding Sands
The article shows how the parameters of moulding mixtures forming mix (modulus of elasticity, fragility of the mixture, the tensile strength, failure strain, etc.) can be used to analyze the possible crack forming mixes.

Gruzman V.M., Kondakov D.O. Production of Steel Casting in Metal-Shell Mold with Cold-Hardening Sand
Results of making a railway-carriage steel casting in a metal-shell mold (MSM) using cold-hardening sand as a sand facing and a light nonferrous metal for the metallic part of the mold are presented. It is shown that use of MSM for steel castings allows reducing the hold-hardening sand amount as compared to the currently adopted flaskless sand molding process by 600% and, therefore, drastically lowering the emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere.

Vasenin V.I., Shchelkonogov M.Y. Investigation into a Branched Gating System
A laboratory-type branched gating system is described. Results of theoretical and experimental determination of liquid flow rates and head pressures depending on the number of feeders working at the same time are given. A good agreement between the calculated and experimental data has been obtained.

Analysis of existing mathematical models of casting processes is carried out for the purpose of considering all production factors. Recommendations for designer and technologist are given for choosing an optimal mathematical model as applied to the problem posed.
