Sadokha M.A. Special Process Features of Preparation and Remelting of Aluminum Chips
Variants of pre-cleaning aluminum chips from moisture, lubricoolants, oils and solid impurities are presented. Analysis of possible process diagrams for remelting chips and waste with a description of advantages and disadvantages is given. Appropriate process equipment is presented.

Design of a shot casting machine, its operation sequence, effect of chemical composition and heat treatment on shot quality is described.

Gerasimov V.V., Visik Y.M. Production and Properties of Monocrystal Blades of Small-Size Engines
The article is dedicated to application of the directional crystallization (DC) method in the production of monocrystal (MC) blades of small-size engines from intermetallide alloy of the BKHA type, whose density is 15…20% lower than that of high-temperature alloys of the ЖС type. Some process regimes for making such parts on a UVNK unit, as well as castings’ alloy microstructure are given. MC blades cast at VIAM have passed tests without any remarks.

The article shows the dynamics of development of cast aluminium alloys from the 50s of the 20th century to the present. Prospects of development and application fields for cast aluminium alloys are given.

Nikitin V.I., Nikitin K.V., Akishin S.A., Krivopalov D.S. Effect of Sr, Ti and B on the Modifiability of Hypoeutectic Silumins
Effect of modifying master alloys obtained by special treatment methods (liquidphase, crystallization, deformation treatments) on the properties of aerospace (AK9ч) and automotive (AK6M2, AK9T) alloys was investigated. A lot of experiments for obtaining fine-crystalline master alloys and their application were carried out. Practical recommendations on improvingsilumin melting and treatment technologies at FGUP “TsSKBProgress” and OAO “AvtoVAZ” are given.

Bezpalko V.I., Batyshev A.I., Batyshev K.A., Smolkin A.A. Production of Impermeable Silumin Castings
Technology of making impermeable silumin castings by casting with crystallization under pressure (CCP) is discussed. Design of a versatile die and a diagram of a unit for testing castings for impermeability are given. Microstructure of produced castings is shown in comparison with the structure of chill castings.

It is shown metal matrix composites production based on aluminum and reinforced by SiC, B4C, Al2O3. Optimal composites production and products thereof was investigated.

About manufacturing uniquely designed castings for steam turbines Manufacturing unique parts of “Steam turbine casing” having especially complex and non-technological construction. Multiple wall crossings form the heat junctions creating favorable conditions for defect formation. Solidification direction and optimal feeding of castings was arranged with the help of the combined usage of direct and indirect action risers, metal stocks, heat insulation of side surface and heel of metal of open risers, and installation of external chills in estimated quantity.
