Gushchin N.S. Hardenability of wear-resistant white irons. Part 2
An analytical review of research works on the casting of wear-resistant white irons with a martensitic or martensitic-austenitic structure is given. The effect of alloying elements and crystallization conditions on the hardenability of wear-resistant white irons was studied in order to form the required primary cast structure and provide the secondary phase recrystallization during heat treatment. A new method to increase the hardenability of wear-resistant irons is presented, which makes it possible to produce a martensitic or martensitic-austenitic structure in castings with a wall thickness of up to 200 mm made from these alloys in the cast state.
Keywords:White iron, alloying elements, heat treatment, hardenability, wear resistance, hardness, martensite, austenite, metal structure, pearlitic and martensitic transformations, casting, nodular graphite.

This paper presents the results of the search for new solutions for the modification of low-chromium hypoeutectic cast iron with boron- and barium-containing additives, considers in detail the important aspects of the in-mold method for modifying cast iron during burnout casting, as an example, the choice of design and the procedure for calculating the main parameters of the elements of the gating system for casting grinding ball.

Shatulsky A.A., Izotov V.A. Design of Rain Gating Systems for Cast Iron Castings
By methods of physical modeling, the features of the melt out flow from the holes of the rain gating system for castings made of gray cast iron are established. It is shown that three melt flow mechanisms are possible: jet, fragmentary, drip. The influence of the nature of the melt flow on the probability of formation of casting defects is proved. Criterion equations are proposed that allow calculating the dimensions of the gate system and selecting the casting parameters that ensure the casting without defects characteristic of this casting method.

Levin D.O., Sulitsin A.V., Brusnitsyn S.V. Investigation of copper content on structure and properties of cast brass
In this work the effect of copper content on the phase composition and mechanical properties of brass in the cast state has been studied. It has been established that with an increase in the copper content in brass from 57,0 to 63,9 wt. % the proportion of the ?-phase in the structure of the alloy increases from 30 to 68%. In this case an increase in the relative elongation of the alloy is observed. The tensile strength first increases (up to a copper content of 61 wt.%) and then decreases. The results of the study made it possible to recommend the range of copper content in brass for the manufacture of ball valves 60…61%.

Lazarenkov A.M., Sadokha M.A. Comprehensive assessment of the working conditions of workers at the smelting and casting sites of foundries
The results of a comprehensive assessment of working conditions at the workplaces of melting and casting sites are presented, the factors of the production environment determining them are determined. The working conditions of the main professions of foundry workers are considered in comparison with the standard values. It is established that in a comprehensive assessment of the working conditions of workers at the smelting and casting sites of foundries, it is necessary to take into account the equipment and hand tools used, the duration of stay at the working equipment, the type of alloy being smelted and the nature of production.
