Boldyrev D.A., Ivanov S.V., Popova L.I., Davydov S.V., Panov A.G. Peculiarities of inoculation and graphite formation in hypo- and hypereutectic gray irons
It is shown that after the graphitizing ladle treatment of molten hypereutectic gray iron by the “under stream” method with a single portion using inoculants based on FS65- FS75 with an alkaline earth metals (AEM) complex its structure in the zones crystallizing after eutectic transformation is characterized by a whirled shape of PGf2 distributed in the form of PGr3 graphite colonies. The favorable structure of high-carbon hypereutectic gray iron represented by the uniform distribution of PGr1 graphite, mainly of rectilinear shape of PGf1 with a minimum amount of whirled shape of PGf2, is achieved by the graphitizing treatment of the melt with anAEM inoculant having an increased Ca, Ba and Sr content.
Key words: High-carbon hypereutectic gray iron, inoculation, structure.
