Process flows to manufacture diesel engine castings from vermicular graphite iron were developed. It was noted that the developed technology makes it possible to obtain high-quality castings from vermicular graphite iron, and the operational procedures of processing the melt with master alloy and modification provide production of the desired structure and mechanical characteristics of the iron in all sections of the casting. The use of the vermicular graphite iron provides an increase in the general structural strength of parts and their operational reliability and efficiency under action of elevated temperatures and mechanical loads.
Keywords: Casting, cover, rod, mold, vermicular graphite iron, properties, structure, probe, simulation.

Boldyrev D.A., Popova L.I., Prasolov S.G. An effect of natural aging on the quality of machining of brake drum castings
Information on the material, the technology of brake drum machining and the related operational defect "noise/knock of the rear suspension" is given. The features of natural aging of cast billets were considered and studied in details. An investigation was carried out to reduce this defect caused by the influence of natural aging on the machinability of brake drum castings according to the tool life criterion estimated in pieces of accepted part.
Keywords: Brake drum, machinability, natural aging, noise/knock of rear suspension.

Narsky A.R., Deynega G.I., Kuzmina I.G. Application of cobalt aluminate modifier for equiaxed casting of gas turbine engine blades. Part 1
Cobalt aluminate is widely used in industry when casting gas turbine engine blades (GTE) from superalloys to obtain a regulated fine-grained macrostructure of castings due to surface modification during equiaxed crystallization in ceramic form. The modifier forms additional nuclei - crystallization centers, as a result of which the grains are crushed in the casting. As part of the development of the problem of import substitution, the technology of manufacturing molds using cobalt aluminate obtained from domestic materials and water-based binders is considered. The first part of the study is devoted to working out the technological parameters of manufacturing the modifier.
Keywords: Blades of gas turbine engines, cobalt aluminate, surface modification, suspension, ceramic molds.

Kvon S.S., Okishev K.Yu., Kulikov V.Yu., Atambaev G.N., Omarova A.E. Manufacture of shell in casting according to melted models excluding formation of pitting spots on casting
The paper presents a method for manufacturing the shell with СMM (casting according to melted models), which avoids the appearance of such a characteristic defect as pitting spots on the surface of castings. As part of the suspension for the manufacture of the shell, it is proposed to use clay of Kazakhstani content as a refractory component and other components to ensure the required technological properties. As a preventive measure against the appearance of pitting, the integrated use of graphite and vibration treatment is proposed. The results of the conducted studies have shown that the area of pitting spots as a result of such treatment is reduced by 30-35% while maintaining the previous indicators of surface cleanliness.
Keywords: Casting according to melted models, suspension, petting, graphite, vibration.

Popov A. An example of the implementation of Laempe technologies during the «coronacrisis» at the plant of the American automobile concern GM
The article deals with the impact of coronavirus on the global foundry industry. A positive example of an automobile plant in the United States is shown, which, despite the global pandemic crisis, is fulfilling plans to modernize the foundry.
Keywords: Foundry modernization, core-making technology, core packages, aluminum castings, cast automitive components.

Lazarenkov A.M., Sadokha M.A. Prediction of the content of hazardous substances in the air of working areas of foundry bays
The results of studies of the air of the working places of foundries are presented. Shown to emit harmful substances in the foundry. The contribution of various sections of the foundry to atmospheric pollution has been assessed. Recommendations are given for the assessment and accounting of harmful emissions in the design and reconstruction of existing foundries.
Keywords: Foundry, working conditions, labor safety, foundry, emission of hazardous substances, concentration of hazardous substances.
