Soifer V.M. About features of the slags of acidic arc steel-making furnaces
The article provides a general characteristic of acidic slags, information on the formation of slags during the melting process and after complete melting of the charge, on the features of the final slag, the solubility of silica in the slag, the structure of acidic slags, the viscosity and fluidity of the slag. A relationship between the composition, properties, structure, amount of slag and the technology and organization of steel smelting is described as well.
Keywords:Slag, acidic process, silica, iron oxide, solubility, ionic theory, viscosity, calcium oxide.

Nikitin V.I., Nikitin K.V. About classification of modifiers for producing cast and wrought alloys
The results of the analysis of the technical literature on the classification of modifiers in cast alloys for the period 1960…2018 are presented. Contradictions and confusion in the existing concepts of the classification of modifiers are revealed. Based on the phenomenon of heredity and genetic engineering technologies, an attempt is made to formulate the theory of gene modification and classify modifiers into classes, genes, and species.
Keywords:Modifier, cast alloys, heredity, gene modification, classification of modifiers.

Marukovich E.I., Ilyushenko V.M., Pumpur V.A., Andrienko V.M., Duvalov P.Yu. Influence of alloying elements and heat treatment on the mechanical properties of chromium cast iron
The results of experimental studies to determine the effect of alloying and heat treatment on the mechanical properties of the high-chromium cast iron are described. When alloying the melt with nickel, molybdenum and manganese, as well as during heat treatment by quenching, specific wear, tensile strength in bending of the obtained samples, their hardness and microhardness were studied. A comparative analysis of the influence of alloying elements and heat treatment methods has been performed. When alloying Ni, Mo, and Mn, cast specimens that have not undergone heat treatment have the highest specific wear. It was established that the hardened Ni alloyed samples have the greatest bending strength. It was found that cast samples that were not subjected to heat treatment have much lower hardness and microhardness.
Keywords:Wear-resistant chrome cast iron, alloying of chrome cast iron, heat treatment, mechanical properties.

Nemenenok B.M., Rafalski I.V., Lushchik P.E., Radchenko A.A. Methods for producing permanent joints of aluminum and titanium alloys
The results of the analysis of theoretical and experimental studies of methods for producing permanent joints of dissimilar metals and alloys are presented, as well as the advantages, implementation problems and prospects of using friction stir welding to join titanium and aluminum alloys. It is noted that most studies focus on friction stir welding of light metals such as aluminum, copper, magnesium and their alloys. Despite the great scientific and practical interest, the friction stir welding processes of alloys and metal-matrix composite materials based on aluminum and titanium have been studied less thoroughly and require additional attention.
Keywords:Aluminum and titanium alloys, permanent joints, friction stir welding.

Zhatkin S.S., Nikitin K.V., Pankratov S.S., Dunaev D.A., Minakov E.A. Application of arc surfacing to obtain 3D objects made of 09G2C steel
The results of a study of the process of bulk arc surfacing from 09G2S steel for obtaining three-dimensional objects are presented. The description of the developed complex and control programs for bulk surfacing is given.
Keywords:Bulk arc surfacing, additive technologies, research, modeling, microstructure

Dvoretskov R.M., Titov V.I., Zayats V.V., Bolshakova A.N. The method of diffraction of reflected electrons to study the phase composition of a composite material Nb-Si-Ti-systems
The structure and phase composition of an experimental sample of a composite material (CM) of the Nb-Si-Ti system were studied by electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. The chemical composition of the sample under study was determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. The optimal method of sample preparation for studying the phase composition by the method of reflected electron diffraction (DOE; EBSD) is chosen. The identification of phases and the assessment of the quantitative phase composition of the prototype of the composite material of the Nb-Si-Ti system by the methods of X-ray diffraction analysis and the DOE method were performed.
Keywords:Nb-Si-Ti – composite materials, mechanical alloying, scanning electron microscopy, phase analysis, reflected electron diffraction, electron probe microanalysis, ion etching.

Malinov L.S., Burova D.V. Improvement of mechanical properties of medium-carbon steels by isothermal quenching by a new method
The possibility of a significant increase of the properties of medium-carbon low-alloy steels by isothermal quenching according to the new method from the intercritical temperature interval (ITI) with cooling and holding in to the water-furnace scheme compared with the improvement is shown. The highest level of strength properties with increased ductility provides combined heating for hardening: first in ITI, and then on the temperature of austenitization. The new method eliminates the use of molten salts or alkalis, provides a multiphase microinhomogeneous disperse structure in which present of metastable austenite, that undergoes a dynamic deformation martensitic martensite transformation – DDMT.
Key words:Steel, isothermal quenching, intercritical temperature interval, mechanical properties, metastable austenite, self-quenching effect under loading.
