The article is devoted to the problems of reducing electricity consumption during melting in modern crucible furnaces. A method for evaluating the suitability of the charge for melting in such furnaces is proposed. The analysis of the results of melting using the proposed method is given.

Soifer V.M. On the application of acid-lined electric steel-making furnaces in mechanical engineering
The article provides general information on acid-lined electric steel furnaces, their advantages as compared to basic furnaces, as well as requirements to acid electric steel, information on the high durability of acid lining and an efficient technology for melting steel in acid furnaces. Attention is drawn to the choice of the type of melting units to be used in the steel workshops in the mechanical engineering industry.

There are discussed issues of increasing the level of mechanical properties of samples from Fe-0,3% C alloys and optimization their structure when varying: the contents of elements (Al, Si, Ni, Cr); modes of melting and thermal treatment of samples. In the context of reduced quality of charge materials, this task is of practical importance.

The possibility of treating copper alloys with carbonates of alkaline earth metals was studied. The results of this research showed the efficiency and prospects of refining and modifying brass melt with a mixture of carbonates.

Marukovich E.I., Ilyushenko V.M., Anisovich A.G., Pumpur V.A., Duvalov P.Yu., Andrienko V.M. An effect of heat treatment on the mechanical properties of wear-resistant chromium iron
An influence of different conditions of heat treatment on the structure and mechanical properties of samples of IChKh18 iron was investigated. It is shown that the transformation of the iron microstructure during heat treatment is reduced mainly to a change in the size and shape of secondary carbides. Changes in the microstructure result in an increase in hardness, bending strength and wear resistance. The best mechanical properties of the samples are provided by thermal cycling, or by heating in a protective environment and air cooling.

Doroshenko V.S. Adaptation of molding and refining technologies for combining metal casting and heat treatment in the LTO process
The proposed methods of combining casting and heat treatment operations will reduce energy consumption and the cycle duration needed to produce heat-treated castings. Approaches to simulation of molding processes are described taking into account softening a sand mold to extract quickly a hot casting from it and the subsequent isothermal quenching of the casting to increase its mechanical properties. Isothermally hardened ductile iron (ADI quality) was used as an example.

The paper presents the results of the study of the main regularities of the formation of morphology, phase composition, structure and properties at all stages of the production of mechanically alloyed heat-resistant composite submicrocrystalline complex hardened powders based on iron and nickel, as well as materials (products) from them, obtained by additive technologies.

Kovalko M.S., Volochko A.T., Ziziko A.V., Rubanik V.V. Structure and properties forming in ductile iron during isothermal hardening using ultrasound
The paper considers the possibility of intensifying isothermal holding processes during quenching of high-strength cast irons by using an external source of physical impact in the form of ultrasonic waves. Ultrasonic treatment of the salt melt during the cooling of the samples was carried out using an UZG 20-15 generator in cooperation with the ITA of NAS of Belarus. The mechanical properties and structure of the treated cast irons were determined both in the cast state and after isothermal quenching.
